Short Term Rehab: What You Should
Know
When an alcoholic or addict is faced with rehab they are also
faced with a lot of questions, the answers to which may not be
readily apparent on the surface. The process of recovery from
alcoholism and drug addiction is not one that is over quickly; the
path to recovery from addiction is one that must be walked for the
rest of the addict’s life.
Short Term Rehab facilities are intended for those who need
immediate care for periods of up to 90 days. It is during
this period, also known as the detox or “drying out” period, that
the physical symptoms of addiction recovery are most apparent and
the most difficult for many to handle. The actual detox
itself can take anywhere from 3-7 days depending on the individual
and the extent of the addiction. After detox comes the
crucial process of preparing the individual for a life without
drugs or alcohol.
Through the assistance of short term rehab staff members as well
as one on one counseling and peer support groups, the short term
rehab experience can be a positive one and one that will give the
recovering addict a strong and sure foothold in the first steps
toward their recovery.
